Custom Packaging

How does the packaging of bread effect its shelf life? does white packaging work better?

I have just noticed a trend lately in bread packaging of having lots of white. Is there a reason for this, or is it purely aesthetic?

  1. Packaging of bread keeps mold spores which are in the air from getting on the bread. If they are already there, they will grow .Color should not have much effect. Some packaging keeps bread from drying out better than others. Refrigeration will slow mold growth, but increase the staling rate. Freezing stops mold growth and staling but often drys out the bread because of the frost free freezers.
  2. The packaging of bread relies on the material used and how it is packed. Breads tend to have molds because of the presence of air or water molecule in it. Remember that, the primary factors of spoilage are air, microorganisms and water. If we put the bread in a vacuum sealed plastic or container, It will prolong it's shelf life, thus resulting to a better bread quality.
