Do you think congress should enforce companies to use biodegradable packaging on all products? No law is proposed but I was thinking a huge waste is all the packaging we throw away. Think of the holidays and drive by houses the day after Christmas and look at all the huge piles of packaging out at the garbage. Look at our food packaging. What a waste. If Congress can't pass a law how about eve giving tax breaks to companies that do use biodegradable or less packaging- Something!

How can we stop a neighboring town from changing a residential zone to industrial for a manure packaging plant There is also an elementary school only a few blocks down the road. Besides noise and traffic, what other arguments can we use to fight the changing of the zoning to "Light Industrial"? Although the neighboring town's councilman hasn't gone through the "fertilizer" packaging plant's current location, he says that Light Industrial zoning doesn't allow for noise or odors anyway. Oh yeah? Try to fight it after the fact - good luck. And try to convince homeowner's that it won't affect their home's value. It will. The person who responds with the most OTHER reasons that will convince the councilman to vote NO on zoning this "light industrial" will most likely win my "best answer" vote.

Where can I get the same clear, strong elastic bands found in the packaging of many Star Wars action figures? The bands that hold many of the Star Wars action figures and their accessories in the packaging isn't a simple rubber band. They have enormous stretching ability and a great memory. In addition, the material is quite strong. I would love to be able to purchase some of these for my own use, but have been unable to find anything but plain old clear rubber bands, which I don't need. Does anyone know what exactly this material is, and if there is somewhere where this could be purchased? Thanks.
What is the see-through 'film' called that is sometimes seen on cake packaging? It has gone completely from my mind and this is quite important. What I am talking about is on some cake packaging, there is a see-through 'film' (which is sometimes square or circle) and shows the cake through it so consumers can see the product before buying it. What is this called? Thank you for all your help. :-)
How can we the consumers put pressure on companies to stop producing so much packaging? Practically everything you buy now from fresh meat to small household electrical goods is vacuum packed, boxed, shrink wrapped and enveloped in polystyrene. This packaging depletes the earths natural resouces and causes us major problems with it's disposal. Plastics in particular take years to degrade and not all are suitable for recycling. I understand goods in transit need to be protected but the problem of waste disposal seems to be spiraling out of control. What can we as consumers to curb this growth? Yes pressure on supermarkets is maybe the way forward as they can force their suppliers to reduce packaging by not renewing contacts. You are misinformed Grizzbr1, No one wants all this packaging, we simply do not have a choice!
Do you remember how laundry powder manufacturers were saving on packaging.? They introduced concentrated power, which could be packed in a small plastic bag, stating because it was concentrated they used less packaging. Then they made tablets, to ensure people used more than they needed to, and to keep the tablets from breaking they used thicker packaging, and more of it. Oh, then they added water to the powder, and put it into bigger plastic bottles to sell as a liquid product.
